In lieu of our all-day conference normally held in October, DISC will be holding a half-day meeting on February 15, from 9am-1pm at the Delaware Department of Agriculture. Our tentative agenda includes three speakers and lunch will be catered by Mission BBQ. We are still working on DDA pesticide credits for these speakers and will advertise them once awarded. This meeting will also serve as DISC’s Annual Business Meeting and will include a vote on a new slate of board members and a change to our by-laws (see proposed changesHERE). DISC by-laws state our slate of nominations must go out for review 30 days prior to the Annual Meeting date. For your consideration, the nominations are below.

In accordance with DISC’s bylaws, our October 2017 Annual Meeting (date and location TBD) will bring a full Board election. Our current Chair, Ashley Peebles, has served two consecutive, successful terms, and is therefore ineligible for re-election. Thank you, Ashley, for your service to DISC! Linda Bailey is the current Vice-Chair, and Marcia Fox is serving as both the Parliamentarian and interim Secretary-Treasurer, following Rebecca Bobola’s departure last December.
DISC is accepting nominations for ALL positions (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary-Treasurer, and Parliamentarian) for our upcoming election. If you are interested in nominating yourself or someone with a passion for protecting Delaware’s ecosystems from invasive species, please send nominees to Marcia.Fox@state.de.us by September 15, 2017.
DISC is always looking for fresh faces from our membership to become more actively involved with the organization. This allows for new ideas for DISC meetings, outreach events, membership engagement, etc., and is an invaluable part of the growth and sustainability of DISC. In addition, Board involvement is an excellent networking and career-building opportunity. Keep in mind that although many of our Board members work for State agencies like DNREC and DDA, those credentials are NOT necessary to serve on the Board!
We hope you, as DISC members, will consider yourselves and your colleagues for nomination!
Mark your calendars! Our next quarterly board meeting will be held July 13, 2017 from 9am to 12pm. Our meeting will kick off with a lecture from the infamous Rob Line entitled: Wild Lands Management; Where We have Been and What Lies Ahead
The Delaware Department of Agriculture will be awarding one pesticide credit each for the following Categories: 03 – Ornamental and Turf Pest Control, 5A – Aquatic, and 03 – Ornamental & Turf
This event is FREE for DISC members, but registration is required, as space is limited! Non-members are also welcome for a $10 fee (DISC membership is included). [**DISC Membership was included with 2016 Annual Meeting registration**]
We encourage everyone to stay for our general business meeting to discover ways to become more actively involved with DISC!
