Job Description: 

The Planner II position is responsible for the statewide management of Delaware State Parks’ land.  The duties include the following:

  • Provides expert consulting services on wildlife management, habitat restoration, rare and endangered species.
  • Implements Natural Resource Management Plans for State Parks and associated properties.
  • Assists in the state park and trail planning processes.
  • Assists with the wildlife management program in State Parks.
  • Provides staff support for natural resource management, invasive species control, habitat restoration, and wildlife management.
  • Ensures availability of natural resource data for environmental review and policy making.
  • Provides supervision to Environmental Stewardship staff, interns and volunteers.

Daily work will be carried out with limited supervision from the Environmental Stewardship Program Manager.

Requirements:

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelors degree or higher in Life or Physical Science or related field preferred.
  2. Three years experience in environmental land use or preservation of natural habitats.
  3. Three years experience in interpreting natural resource rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  4. One year experience in natural resource planning and implementation.

Preferences:  Experience with field identification of plants, knowledge and/or familiarity with Delaware flora and fauna, GIS/GPS experience.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum education: Enrolled in an accredited Conservation program, Natural Resource Management program, or has successfully completed related curriculum. Minimum experience: Ability to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing. Ability to operate hand and power equipment safely. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Ability to execute oral and written directions. Basic knowledge of environmental terminology & practices. Minimum experience: 6 months educational and/or field experience in the study of conservation, environmental or related field.

  • Inventories State Park natural resources, plans and prioritizes protection, restoration, and long range management. Implements Natural Resource Management Plans for State Parks and associated properties.
  • Assists in the state park and trail planning processes.
  • Oversees wildlife management program in State Parks.
  • Provides staff support for natural resource management, invasive species control, habitat restoration, and wildlife management.
  • Develops funding resources through grants and donations
  • Ensures availability of natural resource data for environmental review and policy making.
  • Provides supervision to Environmental Stewardship Staff, interns and volunteers.

Daily work will be carried out with limited supervision from a Park Administrator.

Requirements:

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Life or Physical Science or related field.
  2. Three years of experience in environmental land use or preservation of natural habitats.
  3. Three years of experience in interpreting natural heritage or environmental laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of grant writing.

Forest Restoration Technician needed to work in both forest and landscape settings throughout northern DE and southeastern PA.  Part-time with flexible schedule.  Seasonal or year-round.

Responsibilities include removal of invasive plants to support native plant diversity, planting of native plants, deer exclusion fence construction, habitat landscape installation and maintenance, vegetation surveys, rock wall construction, and pond work.

Must have experience working outdoors and comfortable performing physical labor in all weather conditions.  General knowledge and interest in natural ecosystems is required and the ability to communicate intelligently with clients is a plus.  A degree in natural science or related field is preferred and plant identification skills are highly desirable.
